An “Education Transformation” Task Force established by Governor Christie is proposing the NJDOE eliminate many critical safeguards put in place to ensure New Jersey public school children receive a high quality, “thorough and efficient” education, as guaranteed by the State Constitution and numerous statutes.

In response to an OPRA request, ELC has obtained a confidential proposal prepared for the Broad Foundation by the NJDOE to “turnaround,” take control, and potentially close over 200 public schools over the next three years.

In response to repeated concerns raised by Lakewood public school parents and residents, ELC has filed an OPRA request for detailed documentation about the Lakewood school district’s plan to reconfigure school grade assignments and for academic and budgetary records from prior years.

Acting Commissioner Cerf has directed a second “full” review, in less than a year, of the Newark school district’s performance under QSAC, at the same time as a lawsuit is pending that challenges his refusal to withdraw from the four areas in which the district is high performing.
