ELC has put the Acting Commissioner of Education on notice about the State’s failure to bring in outside experts to conduct an “in-depth evaluation” and develop and implement an improvement plan to address deficiencies in the Camden Public Schools, as required by QSAC.
ELC ASKS USDOE TO DEFER DECISION ON NJ'S ED WAIVER APPLICATION

ELC has filed comments requesting that the US Department of Education defer decision on the NJDOE application for a waiver from NCLB until numerous concerns, including transparency and cost, are properly addressed.

In response to a lawsuit filed by the ACLU-NJ on behalf of ELC, the NJDOE has released public records containing the names of outside persons brought in to review charter school applications. The documents were released nearly one year after the initial request was filed.
ELC CALLS ON NJDOE TO DEFER AND REVAMP NCLB WAIVER APPLICATION

ELC has raised multiple concerns about the NJDOE's draft application for a waiver from various provisions of NCLB. In comments submitted on November 8, ELC urged the NJDOE to defer submission of the application from November 14 to the next application window in mid-February to address these concerns and obtain public input and support.
