EDUCATION LAW CENTER STATEMENT ON SUPPORT FROM MACKENZIE SCOTT

March 24, 2022

The Trustees and staff of Education Law Center (ELC) are honored to be a recipient of generous support from MacKenzie Scott.

This support does more than recognize ELC’s nearly half-century of work advancing education justice for all students, especially students of color, students with disabilities and those in poverty. It also looks forward – sending a powerful message on the need for a sustained focus on the link between education and opportunity.

This grant comes at a pivotal moment when many states are restricting how students learn and limiting what teachers can do, building barriers to economic growth and blocking participation in our democracy. MacKenzie Scott’s gift is an investment in ELC’s future and, in turn, in maintaining robust and equitable public schools across the country.

The grant provides resources to expand our pursuit of education justice, ensure fair school funding, foster diverse learning environments, and demand states fully actualize the right to public education for all students, particularly those historically underrepresented and underserved. Most importantly, it will enable us to enhance and expand our litigation, research, policy, and advocacy work and build and strengthen our partnerships.

ELC’s pride in receiving this grant is exceeded only by our determination to accelerate our pursuit of education justice for our nation’s school children.
