Private Education Vouchers
Public education is the cornerstone of American democracy. Diverting public money to private education starves public schools of vital resources. Instead, public funds for education must support public schools, which are open to all children and accountable to the community. To support public education and fight privatization, Education Law Center established Public Funds Public Schools (PFPS), in partnership with the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), the SPLC Action Fund, and Tamerlin Godley, Esq., to ensure public funds are used to support and strengthen public schools, which welcome and serve all students.

Advocacy & Litigation
PFPS has been leading the national fight against private education vouchers since its launch in 2019. The campaign deploys multiple strategies to combat the diversion of taxpayer dollars to private education, including filing and supporting state and federal lawsuits, disseminating research on the impact and outcomes of voucher programs, monitoring and analyzing voucher legislation, and producing advocacy tools to support parents, students, educators, advocates, and concerned communities.
PFPS litigation efforts have played a crucial role in ensuring that hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars remain in public schools. The campaign has also provided vital support to dozens of advocates, attorneys, policymakers, and others fighting vouchers in their states. Additionally, PFPS has created extensive resources to explain the federal voucher program passed by Congress in July 2025; how it will inflict harm on students, public schools, and states; and why state leaders should reject this scheme.
Visit the PFPS website for a nationwide voucher bill tracker; information on PFPS litigation efforts; research documenting the harms on students, schools, and communities; advocacy tools, including fact sheets, policy briefs, and a webinar series; and more.
Publications
Visitors to the PFPS website can access information about voucher proposals in their states during legislative sessions. Voucher research and news about advocacy campaigns is also available, along with information about previous and current lawsuits.
