These publications are part of a series of ELC “Know Your Rights” guides published to provide comprehensive information and tools for advocates to use in efforts to safeguard and protect the education rights of public school students. Support from the IOLTA Foundation of the Bar of New Jersey contributed to ELC’s update of these publications prior to translation.

“No students in New Jersey should be denied access to school over disputes based on residency or homeless status,” said ELC Senior Attorney Elizabeth Athos. “Protections are built into law so that children can be in school while disputes are pending, and it is critical that information be communicated to as many families as possible. We will continue our efforts to expand translation of ELC’s advocacy guides.”

In addition to the School Residency and Homeless Education guides, ELC’s NJ advocacy guide series includes: The Right to Special Education in New Jersey (English and Spanish); Transition Planning for Students with Disabilities (English and Spanish); Student Discipline Rights and Procedures (English); and Litigating under the New Jersey Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act (English).
